NHS Trust chooses IDIS video tech for a vital new healthcare facility

A national centre of excellence for young people with mental health needs has chosen IDIS technology to play a central role in its £7 million refurbishment. For Austen House, run by Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, keeping both patients and staff safe from harm is a top priority. Video surveillance is a vital tool because it allows incidents to be investigated and care practices to be monitored and improved. Nearly 100 IDIS 12MP Super Fisheye cameras, plus a mix of 5MP bullet and PTZ cameras connected to 32-channel NVRs, were installed to provide 24-hour evidential-standard video of the therapeutic and communal areas, gardens, and perimeter. The affordable, cybersecure system was even delivered ahead of schedule thanks to IDIS’s plug-and-play set up.

IDIS and NDAA Compliance

Many integrators and end users will be aware of the John S. McCain National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) which came into effect in the United States in August. The law prohibits federal agencies, their contractors and grant or loan recipients, from procuring or using telecommunications and video surveillance equipment or services from specific Chinese companies, including Huawei, ZTE, Hytera, Hangzhou Hikvision and Dahua. IDIS produces many cameras and NVRs that do not use components produced by NDAA-banned vendors, making them fully NDAA-compliant, with more products added to the lineup each month. The current offerings focus on large enterprise and government applications, and include server-based solutions and NVRs that come pre-installed with our enterprise-level VMS IDIS Solution Suite (ISS). ISS can scale to cover an unlimited number of sites and features optional modules for federation services, IDIS Deep learning Analytics, IDIS Critical Failover and video wall services, meaning customers only pay for what they need and use. Additional compliant hardware includes a range of bullet and dome cameras, together with powerful NVRs to manage 64 or 32 channels.

Powerful video management on the move with IDIS Mobile Plus App

The IDIS Mobile Plus app helps you meet the challenges of managing your video surveillance system remotely, giving you single or multi-site situational awareness wherever and whenever you need it. Mobile Plus integrates with IDIS network and digital recorders, network cameras and IDIS Solution Suite VMS. Users can play back live-streamed or recorded footage in the same 4K high definition they are used to in the control room, and use silky smooth IDIS Smart UX Controls now optimized for mobile devices. User can configure push alarms notifications giving them the ability to respond to everyday events as well as threats and incidents on the move. The new flexible set of features - including different viewing options, split-screen mode, two-way audio communication and push alarm notifications - makes Mobile Plus is an essential app for all security, safety, and loss prevention managers.

IDIS features strongly at the Security and Fire Excellence Awards

Projects deploying IDIS video technology have been shortlisted in two of the categories at the 2020 Security & Fire Excellence Awards. Video upgrades at a number of care facilities including at Austen House have contributed to Tracey Edwards, Head of Security at Southern Health NHS Foundation Trust, being in the finalists line-up for Security Manager of the Year. And an end-to-end solution which tackles crime and anti-social behaviour at a south London housing estate is a finalist for Security Project of the Year. IDIS integration partner Hall & Kay installed nearly 60 column-mounted full HD IR bullet cameras, along with three NVRs using 12TB of extra storage each, to ensure comprehensive coverage of the Meridian South estate in Hither Green. Within 24 hours of being installed, the cameras had recorded departing tenants illegally dumping rubbish. The setup has subsequently captured other incidents, producing high definition evidence that has been passed to the police. Residents are, unsurprisingly, delighted with their new security system.
