Performance, simplicity and affordability drive the most quintessentially British luxury label to install full-HD surveillance from IDIS

BRENTFORD, LONDON, 17 MARCH 2014 – DAKS, one of Britain’s major fashion companies, has implemented IDIS DirectIP surveillance at its flagship stores on Old Bond Street and Jermyn Street in the heart of London.  IDIS partner and one of the UK’s fastest growing security systems integrators, Rutledge Integrated Systems (RIS), won the contract to install and maintain the IDIS DirectIP solution through a competitive bid situation.

Previously using an aging analogue CCTV system, DAKS faced an increasing level of theft, with the legacy system providing inadequate views of shop floors, coupled to poor clarity of image and slow retrieval of footage. DAKS selected the RIS and IDIS solution based on performance and affordability combined with RIS’s security expertise and experience in high-end retail environments.

The DirectIP full-HD solution features sixteen two-megapixel flat dome cameras with wide angle lenses at the flagship DAKS store on Old Bond Street plus eleven cameras at Jermyn Street.  Connected to 32-channel DirectIP NVRs, staff are able to monitor stores directly from the cash desk to quickly detect any suspicious behaviour, rapidly retrieve footage and subsequently reduce shrinkage.  The unobtrusive flat dome cameras and the sleek design of DirectIP NVRs are conducive to the high-end retail experience offered by the DAKS luxury label.  With Royal Warrants granted from three members of the Royal Family, DAKS values the quality, reliability and innovation that the DirectIP solution encompasses, allowing the fashion company’s brand identity to flow through to its security operations.

Commenting on the solution, Ray Price, Head of Maintenance at DAKS, said, “The DirectIP solution offered us the complete 360° surveillance capability we were looking for. Continually impressed with its outstanding HD resolution and clarity, our staff have quickly adapted to the solution using its simple and intuitive interface. The RIS and IDIS solution offered us a fast return-on-investment through a reduction in theft, while the elimination of annual video management license fees ensures a low cost of ownership.”

Andy Rutledge, Managing Director, RIS, said, “DirectIP™ provided the performance and affordability DAKS demanded allowing us to offer a compelling and competitive solution. DirectIP is an especially good fit for the retail sector, featuring 30 images per second to deliver real-time full-HD across multiple cameras with next to no network latency. This enables DAKS staff to quickly and accurately detect any suspicious behaviour.”

Lewis Hayzelden, Operations Manager, RIS, added, “DirectIP facilitated a simple and rapid out-of-hours installation without disrupting a busy retail environment. Using true plug-and-play simplicity, we implemented the solution and trained DAKS staff at each of the stores in under eight hours.”

About DAKS

The DAKS name has always been synonymous with British Heritage, style and elegance. Originally founded in 1894 by Simeon Simpson, who provided a bespoke tailoring service in Middlesex Street, in the City of London, soon earning a reputation as ‘Simpson’s Suits’.

In 1934, Alexander Simpson, the second son of Simeon Simpson, invented a completely revolutionary garment, a milestone in fashion, introducing a style of trouser that featured an adjustable waistband that eliminated the need for belts and braces that were restrictive yet necessary for British Gentleman up until this point.

Today the brand is one of the UK’s most quintessentially British luxury labels, specialising in fine tailoring and accessories for both Men and Women. The brand’s unique House Check, which is recognised worldwide, was introduced in 1976 and has become an international symbol for the brand, featuring heavily throughout the clothing and accessories ranges.

DAKS is very proud to hold Royal Warrants granted from three members of the Royal Family. Our Warrant from Her Majesty the Queen dates from 1962, that from the Duke of Edinburgh from 1956 and that from The Prince of Wales from 1982. The Royal Warrants are a hard-earned reflection of excellence of product and service and are rigorously scrutinised by the Royal Warrant Holders Association every five years.

Over the years, DAKS has enjoyed a strong affiliation with sport and the brand has contributed actively to the sports world. DAKS slacks were at the forefront of sportswear and supplied uniforms for many of the British national teams for golf, tennis, cricket and football. These contributions have been much respected in both the sport and fashion world.

Worldwide, DAKS is exported to 30 countries and sold in over 2,000 speciality shops, major stores and concessions. With a strong reputation in the Far East markets, DAKS has been sold under license in Japan for over 30 years and in Korea is the number one non-domestic brand. Standalone stores in Hong Kong, mainland China and Taiwan confirm DAKS’ position as a truly global brand.

DAKS, as one of Britain’s major fashion companies, continues to uphold the values of quality, reliability and innovation first established by Simeon Simpson over 100 years ago. These values remain unchanged and paramount to the brand’s identity, as does the pursuit to create much loved British classics.

Partners iCenterHD and Rutledge Integrated Systems, leverage the simplicity and speed of installing DirectIP™ ahead of the resort’s inauguration

BRENTFORD, LONDON, 20 JANUARY 2014 – A luxury hotel and resort group has completed the first installation of IDIS DirectIP™ full-HD surveillance at its new flagship resort in Phuket, Thailand, as part of a wider DirectIP™ rollout programme. Commissioned ahead of the resort’s inauguration in December, the project is the first of twelve DirectIP™ solutions to be installed across the group’s new properties in Asia and North America.

Ahead of opening the Phuket resort, the group’s security team needed to implement a modern and high performance HD video surveillance solution that would be unobtrusive and match the resorts luxury brand and image. The solution needed to ensure the safety and security of the resort’s guests and staff, while the implementation needed to meet extremely tight deadlines ahead of the inauguration in late 2013.

In November 2013, the hotel group turned to their trusted systems integrator, Rutledge Integrated Systems (RIS).  RIS worked in partnership with CCTV specialist’s iCenter HD to review a number of server-based surveillance solutions. After thorough evaluation, the team selected DirectIP™, based on its innovative high performance combined with its capability for fast and simple implementation, affordable pricing and bundled IDIS Center™ video management, requiring no ongoing licence fees.

The complete end-to-end DirectIP™ solution, comprising 45 internal and external dome cameras and  two 32-channel network video recorders (NVRs), is managed through the simple and intuitive IDIS Center™ video management software (VMS). The IP-enabled and vandal proof range of one and two megapixel cameras, also feature pan-tilt-zoom, low light and audio functionality. Eighteen terabytes of storage provided by the DirectIP™ NVRs support the resort’s requirement to store 31 days of footage all in full-HD.

The user-friendly solution operates just like a traditional analogue DVR-based system with all the necessary accessories supplied by IDIS to build a complete full-HD surveillance solution.

Andy Rutlege, Managing Director at RIS, said, “The luxury resort group are an existing prestigious and important customer for RIS, and we were determined to complete the project ahead of the inauguration.  As an established systems integrator, having completed a large number of IP CCTV projects, DirectIP™ offered us a previously unseen level of seamless integration.  To ensure we delivered the project on time and on budget, iCenter HD distributed the kit in record time to Thailand and remained incredibly responsive throughout the project.

“We are currently rolling out two similar DirectIP™ solutions in the Maldives and Miami with another nine scheduled over the next few months.   We intend to use IDIS DirectIP™ combined with the services offered by iCenter HD for these and many projects in the future.”
