Background
IDIS video solution for landmark City of London office development shows that sustainability and security can go hand in hand
A historic building in London’s Square Mile has been redeveloped, creating over 27,000 square metres of multi-storey office and retail space with unique views of St Paul’s Cathedral and the City of London tower cluster.
Sustainability is at the heart of the multi-million-pound development, which is powered by 100% green energy and features planted terraces, which provide significant urban greening and biodiversity benefits. Thanks to an ambitious reuse and retention strategy, the development is carbon-neutral in construction and operation. It was essential to have a video and security solution that aligned with the development’s sustainability objectives.
Challenge
Delivering an integrated video and security solution within an ambitious refurbishment schedule
IDIS integration partner Phoenix Trescray was awarded the contract to deliver a 24/7 HD surveillance solution covering the building exterior, entrances, bike storage, and priority internal areas, including the reception, lifts, corridors, service areas, and a sculpture in front of the building with protected Grade 2 heritage status.
The video solution needed to be delivered as part of a wider security package, integrated under a unified management platform, and deployed efficiently in line with the ambitious building refurbishment schedule.
To align with the project's minimal-waste objectives, the video technology needed to be cost-efficient to install and operate, long-lasting, and flexible for future adaptation. IDIS was chosen as the preferred supplier.
Solution
Robust IDIS video tech gives assurance of HD surveillance with long-life performance
IDIS 5MP vandal-resistant IR dome cameras with PoE were installed throughout the interior to minimize cabling requirements. 2.8 mm wide-angle lenses provided the best field of view.
A combination of 5MP IR dome cameras and 5MP IR bullet cameras with two-way audio, built-in heaters, cover the building exterior and entrances.
Elevators were fitted with mini dome cameras featuring wide-angle 2.8mm lenses.
The video solution, using IDIS Center VMS software, is controlled by security staff from PC workstations and monitored at reception using a 2x2 video display via an HDMI matrix splitter.
Results and benefits
Efficient installation and low operating burden, with expansion flexibility designed in
The IDIS video technology was fast and easy to install. The plug-and-play setup of cameras, recorders, and VMS software efficiently created an integrated security solution on time and on budget and supports low-cost system expansion.
Plans to extend the system include developing a dedicated security control room, introducing AI-powered video analytics in targeted locations to provide automated detection and alerts, and installing additional cameras.
The IDIS solution also offers the advantages of a low total cost of ownership (TCO), with minimal waste, long device life cycles, and low operating costs, all of which support the sustainability commitments prioritized across the wider development.
" IDIS video technology was the perfect fit for this project, demonstrating that sustainability and security can go hand in hand. IDIS tech was easy to work with, provided outstanding value, and assured our customer of long-life performance and the flexibility to adapt and upgrade their video solution in the future."
